New Mexico’s Indicator-Based Information System
for Public Health
New Mexico’s Indicator-Based Information System for Public Health (NM-IBIS) provides online access to numeric measures that depict the health or health system status of priority public health constructs.
Arthritis is included as a priority health indicator. Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) data from 2005 and 2007 were used to compare trends in arthritis prevalence between the national and state level. New Mexico’s 2007 BRFSS data was used to demonstrate arthritis prevalence by sex, and combined 2005 and 2007 BRFSS datasets to develop more precise estimates for arthritis prevalence by race/ethnicity and county. Data are presented in both graphic and tabular form, and can readily be accessed by the general public and public health stakeholders on the NM-IBIS website.
