Adults with Chronic Diseases by Arthritis Status

For all the chronic diseases and risk factors presented (except for current smoking), a significantly higher percentage of adults with arthritis report the presence of disease or risk compared to adults without arthritis.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

52% of New Mexican adults with arthritis do not engage in sufficient amounts of physical activity, compared to 45% of New Mexican adults without arthritis.

WEIGHT

Nearly 67% of adults with arthritis in New Mexico are also overweight (35%) or obese (32%), while among adults who are overweight or obese, 62% have arthritis.

DIABETES

Almost 15% of adults with arthritis in New Mexico also have diabetes. Among adults with diabetes, 51% also have arthritis.

CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE

14% of adults with arthritis in New Mexico also report some form of cardiovascular disease (i.e., stroke, heart attack, coronary heart disease or angina). Among adults with cardiovascular disease, 51% report also having arthritis. More than 44% of adults with arthritis also have high blood pressure and 49% of adults with arthritis have high cholesterol. Among adults with high blood pressure, 47% have arthritis, and 47% of adults with high cholesterol also have arthritis.
